“To inspire our community and beyond to support the tradition of the Dipsea Race, the stewardship of the Dipsea Trail, and the legacy of the Dipsea for current and future generations.”
I am a board member and Chair of the Fundraising Committee of the Dipsea Race Foundation. One of our programs, Dipsea Kidz, is a youth development program serving kids in Marin County through a structured, twice weekly after school physical fitness, mentoring, nutritional and educational program.
“At the Western Golf Association/Evans Scholars Foundation, we change lives—on golf courses, in classrooms, and in communities. Our world-class amateur and professional golf events enable us to provide deserving caddies with transformational college educational experiences that go well beyond full tuition and housing scholarships. In doing so, we prepare young people to become leaders who give back so that others may follow.”
I did not know it at the time, but becoming a caddy at the age of thirteen was the best decision I could have made at the time. I caddied for and was inspired by some of the best people you could want to meet, learned invaluable life lessons, found direction and a mentor in my first career, developed a love for the game of golf and the quality of practicing charity. I am fortunate to be part of this esteemed community as an Evans Scholar Alum.
“Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter the oceans, primarily from rivers. And the plastic that’s afloat within the oceans isn’t going away by itself. To effectively solve the problem, we need to both halt the trash flow from rivers and remove legacy plastics from the oceans at the same time.
The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, is developing and scaling technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Our aim is to put ourselves out of business once the oceans are clean.”
“When my friend and I first started this company, we were just two surfers trying to clean the ocean. We never imagined that our scrappy little startup would become a global cleanup operation that recovers millions of pounds of trash from the world’s oceans, rivers, and coastlines every year.
But we did it like we’ve always done it… one pound of trash at a time.”
